January 23 - dfree® Devotions for Financial Freedom

Verse
Do not turn to idols or make metal gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God." Leviticus 19:4 NIV

Thought
I watched a commercial for a car that included no spoken words at all. The video footage showed the car being delivered, prepared and driven at a speed that was certainly illegal on any street or highway. The music that was played during the commercial reminded me of the symphonic creations composed for European royals. The hypnotic stares that were on the faces of the men that lustfully witnessed the performance of the car were reminiscent of the way my children looked at me when they were preschool age. Without using any words that commercial conveyed a very specific message about the special status of that car. A very special status.

Is it so easy to assign significance to symbols of success. If we are not careful, those symbols can become more than mere symbols and our desire to possess them can become obsessive. If our opinions of ourselves are affected by the things that we possess, we risk allowing our "metal" to become our gods.

It's nice to have nice things - as long as we never let them become more important than God.

Prayer
"God, I will never let anything become more important in my life than You. Amen."
