January 31 - dfree® Devotions for Financial Freedom

Verse
Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank. Numbers 20:11 NIV

Thought
I read about a woman who had lost her job and as a result, she was unable to make the mortgage payments on her house. After a few months, her bank notified her that they were going to foreclose on her house and that she would have to move. Unable to find work, the woman was facing the prospect of being homeless.

Determined to keep her house the woman considered her options and decided that since people always complimented her about the cakes that she baked, that she would bake and sell cakes to raise the money to pay her bank. Her effort was so successful that she paid the bank and partnered with a bakery where she bakes and sells cakes for a living. Her initial dilemma may have been described as having been between "a rock and a hard place." Well, Moses may have inspired this woman to believe that one can get water from a rock!

As changes take place in our lives and we find ourselves in circumstances that seem impossible, it is helpful to remember how others made it through their rough spots and tough times. The same God that provided for Moses and his community while they were thirsty in the desert provided for this woman when she was broke and facing eviction. That same God will help us as we navigate our way through our tough times. And our solution may very well come from something that we already have - like some cake mix or a rock.

Prayer
"God, show me how to get water from my rock. Amen"
